James E. Forrest currently serves as Chairman of Shore Capital, a Chicago-based private equity group focused on health care services and the food industry, where he serves on the boards of Innovia Medical, Nova Health Care, Navia Benefit Solutions, Great Lakes Dental Partners, Southern Veterinary Partners, SCP Special Docs, Main Street Gourmet, and Innovative Packaging Company. During his more than 30 years in venture capital and private equity Jim has served on more than 35 Boards of Directors of private companies ranging from start-ups to companies with revenues approaching $1 Billion. Jim’s focus in all his investments is on developing and implementing strategies for growth, the ultimate foundation for wealth and job creation.
Jim also serves on the Board of Overseers of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Hoover is one of the nation’s preeminent public policy research institutions, where it seeks to improve the human condition by advancing ideas that promote economic opportunity and prosperity through free market principles and limited government, while securing and safeguarding peace for America and all mankind. Current Fellows include such notable intellectuals as Condoleezza Rice, George Schultz, Henry Kissinger, Shelby Steele, John Taylor, Ed Lazear, Gen. Prior to Shore Capital, Jim spent 20 years as a Managing Director of Wind Point Partners, a private equity firm in Chicago, Illinois, where he focused on investments in industrial manufacturing, business to business services, health care, and the software and electronics industries. He was also frequently involved in managing troubled portfolio companies, having served as interim CEO of a variety of Wind Point’s investments. Prior to joining Wind Point Partners in 1988, Jim was with Gould, Incorporated, Chicago, Illinois, a diversified industrial company where he ran several international electronics businesses during his 14 years with the Company.
Jim earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude, from Michigan State University in 1971, and received his MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1975. He and his wife, Alice, met at Michigan State University in 1968, and have been married 47 years.
Jim and Alice have residences in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and Chicago, Illinois. He is blessed with a son, Patrick, a daughter, Emily, and four grandchildren.
